ReSound

Re:Sound handles recorded music or sound that is used in a live performance. They represent recording artists and music labels.

When searching for music rights for live performing arts, it is possible that you will need to apply for the recording rights as well as composition rights. Composition rights are usually handled with SOCAN, but the recording rights are taken care of at Re:Sound. When looking for recording rights, check out the tariff definitions on Re:Sound’s website.

Re:Sound makes it very easy to calculate how much what kind of license you will need and how much it will cost. Check out their user-friendly rate-recommending app here.
Don’t be afraid to email or call a representative at Re:Sound. The more you talk to these organizations, the more you will figure out where to go for performance rights and when.
